MANILA THE MEGACITY
ABOUT THE MEGACITY
Problems
-
The Philippines is the third most country at risk to be effected by climate change.
-
This is because majority of their population and infrastructure is located in coastal regions.
-
In the near future Manila will be swamped more often by tidal surges, battered by ever stronger typhoons and storms, monsoon rains and hit by deeper droughts.
Solutions
-
The Philippines Government has a “Sustainable Development Strategy” designed to reduce the effects of climate change.
-
Precautions such as
-
building houses away from the coastline
-
preparing for increasing sea levels and stronger typhoons and cyclones
-
installation in houses to prepare for increasing temperatures
-
safer stronger houses to prepare for more powerful natural disasters
-
will help the effects on climate change on the population of Manila.
